AW Weathering Powders
AW Weathering powders are made from pigments: an insoluble, dry solid that is pulverized to a fine powder. Pigments are the raw materials that paint manufactures use to produce various shades of colour. Our powders are extremely high in pure pigment and should be used carefully and in tiny amounts as their colour intensity and coverage far exceeds powders made by "pastel chalks".
Use in the raw form as a weathering agent, or mix them with either a medium or plaster to make mud, or with water or alcohol to make a wash.
Pigments work better than ground dry pastels as their permanence is far greater, however there are many other uses for pigments. Prior to using pigments, take time to regrind the powder. Moisture in the air causes the pigments to bind together. To break them apart, use the blunt end of a paint brush or similar tool to stir the pigments loose (If required).
You are not limited to the basic colours of the pigments. Experiment with mixing several pigments together to create new colours and shades. You can also mix "pigments" with plaster, acrylic colours and earth to make 'dry mud'. Mix with oils, plaster and Gloss varnish to make 'fresh mud'. Apply pigment with a soft brush to create light dust over surfaces. You can mix with alcohol, thinners, water or other liquids to experiment yourself.
Now in re-sealable flip-top pots. Approx~ 25ml by volume (figure shown for scale purposes only)
Vallejo Model Colour Glaze - Verdigris
This is an excellent glaze for making verdigris - ideal for statues as shown below - simply paint up your statue in an appropriate metallic colour and then dry-brush on the glaze, repeating application for heavier verdigris. Very simple method yet stunning results.

"Mig Pigments is the original & authentic pigment colors for modelling. Colors are elaborated with a high quality pigment powder, they are the only ones that offer modellers the maximum guarantees of quality & health. Pigments are NO-TOXIC, because completely inoffensive mineral & organic products are used. Mig Pigments can be used to make different effects of mud, rust, dust, dirt. They can mix with any type of thinner, eg. turpentine, alcohol, water. You can also apply directly with a paintbrush to make softer effects. Mig Pigments offers REAL colors. Developed some mixtures of exclusive colors, perfect to make any weathering type in tanks, airplanes, figures & dioramas."
Mig Productions was set up by Miguel Jimenez in 2002 and is based in Spain. They are a very progressive company and continue to lead the way in new ideas and models to push modelling forward. Probably best known for their pigments Mig have also recently introduced their new range of Sin Industries filter sets. These are proving extremely popular as are the new Abteilung oil colours. Again these have been designed especially for modelling and have all the colours you will ever need to touch up and highlight important features on your models.
AW Says: An excellent system for weathering, Mig products are widely recognised as the very best in weathering and they really do the job superbly. The wash system is especially clever and well worth experimenting with: you apply the enamel-type wash and then remove any excess using the thinners for washes without affecting any of the acrylic paint underneath it. This gives you a measure of control far beyond normal washes and weathering.
Thinner for Washes (75ml)

"We have recived many letters from modellers who find many problems with thier turpentines or white spirit in their countries. In fact, each turpentine is different in each country and nobody can produce the same effects because each product is different to the others. This is why we produce a special THINNER for WASHES. This product was tested in our models and the results was just great. Now, the modeller can be sure that his results will be always the same ones. You can use our Thinner in combination with our pigments colors."

Mig Pigment Sets
Pigments are very finely ground to give you something similar to a coloured dust. They are designed to be used for finishing your models and are especially useful for weathering your models. This used to be done only by military modellers but recently many railway modellers have decided that weathering their locos is the proper thing to do so they are now proving popular among railway modellers.
There are many ways to use your pigments but the main options are to drybrush on to your finished model, to mix to a paste with thinners or to mix with acrylic resin to create a mud effect and raised textures.

Tamiya Weathering Pastels |
Easy Way to a Pro-Level Finish

Weathering means adding realistic-looking effects to your models, such as sand on tank treads and mud-caked rally car bodies. These new Tamiya Craft Tools offer by far the easiest way to achieve realistic weathering effects. Weathering Master comes in a pocket sized case with 3 colours and special applicator tool. The pen-type Weathering Stick offers up to 5mm of easy-to-apply colour by simply twisting the tip.
AW Says: It has to be said that the Tamiya Weathering sets and sticks are absolutely superb, making application of weathering far easier than using simple powders. Each set is similar to a make-up kit and comes with its own small sponge and brush, the sticks are like miniature lipsticks and easy to apply for great effects and the availability of the two sponge brushes just rounds the entire package off as being an all-in-one solution to weathering.
Very, very highly recommended.
It is worth noting, however, that they can not simulate some types of weathering effects as well as you can with powders, particularly dusts, rusts and similar but especially anything where you want a "particulate" results and not just a colour change.
