Styrofoam (Blue foam, Dense Styrofoam, rigid foam, styrodur, pink foam etc):
"Styrofoam" is the recognised name by most people for what is Extruded polystyrene. The colour used to indicate different brands of the material e.g. "DOW Styrofoam" was blue. Nowadays the colour is less important as the same colours are used by different companies for different products.
Styrofoam LB remains one of the most popular forms of Extruded Polystyrene though and still comes in blue (and green nowadays!) and this is what we stock.
The material is dense (32kg/m3 and higher) but very lightweight. It has a small cell structure which means it does not break apart as does Expanded Polystyrene (the white big-bubbly stuff that is used a lot for packaging). Despite its light weight it is very strong especially in compressive terms - the combination of that strength and the light weight makes it an ideal modeling material.
It can be cut with a sharp knife - but it does blunt knives VERY quickly indeed. Cutting Styrofoam with a blunt knife should be avoided as it will "tear" the edges leaving an ugly seem.
It can also be worked with a "Hot wire cutter", either a bench or hand held version and many people also work it with a soldering iron.
Styrofoam does give off some nasty fumes so don't work on it unless you are in a very well ventilated area and ideally also wearing a fume-mask. It also produces very fine particulates when sanded, so once again use caution when sanding it down and wear something like a surgical mask as minimum precautions.
Please Note: To avoid damage in transit you should also purchase rigid cardboard packaging for these items irrespective of the number of sheets you buy. The cost of this packaging is fixed at £0.70p.
If you do not purchase the protective packaging then the foamboard/styrofoam is sent at your own risk and we can not be held responsible for any damage in transit nor will we replace damaged sheets.

Styrofoam Gaming Tiles
NEW DENSER STYROFOAM.
NEW REDUCED PRICES.
60cm x 60cm Styrofoam Gaming Tiles
These are pre-cut accurate 60cm x 60cm tiles in 2 thickness: 25mm and 50mm.
They are specifically for making gaming tiles to make up a modular gaming table and are now made from the same styrofoam as above. They are also what we use to make our deluxe gaming boards.
You need 8 of these tiles to make up a modular 8 foot by 4 foot table.
Whilst the tiles are sturdy they are also susceptible to damage in the post: therefore we have also included 2 types of packaging for them. The packaging boxes are heavy duty double-wall cardboard and thus do weigh quite a bit (1.8 and 2.0kg).
The smaller box can hold between 8 and 12 sheets and the large box can hold up 16-20 sheets of 25mm tiles. Both types of packaging are provided at cost i.e. we charge only what we pay for them.
We advise people to use them when ordering the tiles and it is best if you order them separately to anything else, otherwise the weight of the boxes themselves will skew the postage costs. Postage within the UK is by Royal Mail 1st Class and Standard Parcels, or by courier.
We do understand that the packaging is heavy and makes the postage somewhat higher but there is no other way to guarantee that they arrive in perfect order. Customers are welcome to collect tiles by arrangement and we are also happy for you to arrange your own courier collection from 0900hours to 1700 hours, Monday to Friday (please ring us to ensure we will be available for dispatch)
The boxes themselves make excellent storage boxes for the tiles and are especially good for transporting finished tiles from house to club or convention and therefore they have a value and use beyond simply being packaging (we use them ourselves for moving tiles to shows).
You CAN place an order for the tiles without using the packaging, Orders placed without the above packaging are dispatched in industrial film with buble-wrap ONLY.
Please note
however should any of the tiles become damaged in transit then we hold no responsibility and you would need to seek compensation via Royal Mail .

Embossed Styrofoam Terrain Boards
Terrain Boards
A collection of embossed and heat-stamped styrofoam sheeting materials that are excellent for covering large areas with realistic surface textures with virtually no weight. They can be used for floor, walls, ceiling and all types of brickwork and are often known as Terrain Board or Wall Board.
You can cut them easily and smoothly using a sharp bladed hobby knife and they can be bent round corners after heating with a hairdryer. These very versatile sheets come pre-coloured but can easily be dry-brushed to your colour of choice due to the textured nature of their surfaces.
Please Note: Although the sheets are sent out in padded envelopes marked clearly with "DO NOT BEND" labels they are sent out at the purchasers risk - we can not, unfortunately, guarantee that the boards will arrive in perfect condition.
However, if you would like additional protection when ordering the terrain boards we can send them sandwiched between corrugated cardboard - this costs an additional £0.50p in postage fees as a flat rate - it is not a per item charge.
Polystyrol / Depron
Polystyrol is a dense sheet extruded polystyrene that is near identical to Depron. It is an excellent modelling material for anything from structural walls of buildings to
ground cover and terrain tiles, through to model airplanes and RC models.
Using a soft pencil or a ball-point pen Polystyrol can be marked with grooves to simulate panel lines, bricks or stones for making quick and effective walling for castles and other buildings.
